Loy Sum Juan Restaurant 黎三元酒家

Posted by CyberTron on Feb 05, 2009 10:29PM
Decided to come here for Chinese New Year lou hei with a couple of friends today.

We ordered a small size yu sheng ($28), bean curd ($15), coffee pork ribs ($12), black pepper venison ($18), shrimp paste chicken ($10), luo han vegetables ($10). Total bill inclusive of tea, rice, towels, etc came up to $120.80. Works out to $20 for the 6 of us.

Though we ordered the small size yu sheng, the portion is actually quite big. For rest of the dishes (we ordered all small size), the portion is pretty decent too. My favourite is the bean curd and the shrimp paste chicken. The shrimp paste chicken was served piping hot, and the meat was very tender. I pretty enjoyed all the dishes, though my friend commented she can't taste the coffee in the coffee pork ribs.

Overall, this is a no fuss chinese restaurant, with pretty bare deco. Sort of like a coffee shop zi char in a simple chinese restaurant.

However, for those who have not tried this or planning to check this place, you better hurry, as a notice on the entrance says they are closing on 9 Feb 09, and they will inform those who leave their contact behind when they find a new premise. So hurry as only few more days to go and they might be gone for good!

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.

I'm not sure exactly where the original Leong Kee moved to, but I believe the one at Sultan Gate is still there. I also saw one at junction of Jln Besar and Hindoo road. Just at the junction before beancurd city

hi! The bak kut teh at this place is Klang style. If you refering to the peppery style Bak Kut Teh you typically find in Singapore, then this is not the place for you. For the peppery style one, the famous ones are probably ones are Balestier Road or the one at Tanjong Pagar complex. For me, I usually just go to Song Fa at Rochor which is decent for me, and more convenient as well.

I don't remember if i'd ever come across cheap and nice seafood in KL...I suggest you to plan a trip to Sabah, that's really what I call heaven for seafood lovers. ;-)
